18kt yellow gold Victorian diamond and enamel mourning ring, set with an old-cut diamond to a scrolled black enamel surround and plain band, the inside of the band is inscribed "In memory of Sir Tho. Robinson, born Jan 8th 1827, died Oct 26th 1897", with small locket section to the inside, empty glazed panel, with Birmingham Hallmarks, 1897.  

 

Sir Thomas Robinson (1827-1897) was an English corn merchant and Liberal politician.  He was elected as a Member of Parliament for Gloucestershire in 1880, again in 1885, and was may of the city four times.  He was knighted by Queen Victoria during her 1894 birthday honors.
